Creating, Editing and Deleting Strategy Map Items

As seen previously, selecting the Strategy Map option from the button opens up the View/Edit Strategy Map page:

=

This page displays two panels. The left-hand panel shows the entire strategy map as an expanding tree structure, while the right-hand panel displays information about the currently selected item in the tree.

The and icons at the top of each panel expand the selected panel or contract it back again. This enables large, indented strategy maps to be more easily displayed.

The icon allows the strategy map to be searched whereas the icon allows viewing and working with a subset of the strategy map after the search.

To add, edit or delete Strategy Map items, right clicking over an item will bring up a pop-up menu similar to the one below (in this case on an ‘Aim’ item):

If the item was measurable the following pop-up would be displayed on right click:

The Escendency system comes with four default strategy item types; Visions, Aims, Objectives, and Targets (however, an organisation can create any number of strategy map items in the Strategy Item Types module and also edit (or delete) the default items):

Key: Vision
  Aim
  Objective
  Target

For a new system only an undefined Vision item will be visible in the strategy map.

The minimum pieces of information necessary when adding strategy map items to the map are:

• Name – The name of the item (this will be displayed in the map);
• Type - What type of strategy item is described (this determines the icon displayed on reports such as the CPO. The behaviour of an item is not affected by its type;
• Measurable – Whether the item can have an indicator associated with it to form a measurable target (default is not measurable);
• Status – Whether the strategy map item is currently left to open (this should normally be left as open);

Go to next page to see how to create your own strategy item types or customise the existing ones.
